Get your class out in the park
Did you know our Chelmsford parks are available to be used for outside learning? Teachers and students are welcome to connect with nature and learn about the park environment and its wildlife through hands-on practical activities.
Led by our Parks Volunteer Leader and another member of the Parks and Green Spaces Team, students will get to undertake a variety of tasks depending on the time of year and the Parks/Green Space Management Plan. We offer a range of practical horticultural activities in our Parks and Green Spaces, suitable for all ages. We run inclusive sessions for people with physical and learning disabilities. Sessions are, where possible, held in a Chelmsford park within walking distance of the school or college that the students attend, making it a really viable option to shake up the usual lesson plan and get the class participating in some outside learning. The team will be on hand the entire time to lead the session and offer park guidance to the students. This can help young people consider career options not necessarily found within a classroom, as well as boost interest in outdoor hobbies.
Activities include:
- Planting winter bulbs
- Planting wildflower plugs in meadow areas
- Young (whip) tree planting
- Community Allotment Project- sow and grow
