Eligible residents in Chelmsford have been receiving their free energy-saving upgrades thanks to the Home Upgrade Grant 2.

HUG2 is a government-funded local authority scheme for properties with off-gas heating. The scheme helps deliver energy-saving improvements to the homes of eligible people who struggle to pay their heating bills whilst reducing their carbon footprint!

Recently, a Chelmsford homeowner was thrilled and says their property immediately felt warmer after receiving free energy-saving upgrades.

The resident of Temple Grove near Chelmsford received home improvements through the government-funded Home Upgrade Grant (HUG).

After applying for the scheme, a survey recommended additional insulation, installation of extractor fans and ventilation improvements.

Once the recommended upgrades were confirmed, work on the property began on the date provided. All measures were installed in just over two weeks by Cornerstone. This included a temporary pause due to poor weather and the residents being on holiday.

The property previously consumed a lot of gas to keep warm. However, with the measures installed, the property is now warmer and are hopeful for reduced costs as less energy is needed to heat the home.

Another success was a Chelmsford resident achieving her ‘life-long’ dream of having a home powered by the sun, thanks to free energy-saving upgrades.

Stephanie Dodwell had eight solar PV panels installed to her property thanks to the HUG2, and also decided to have a battery and car charger put in, funded by the homeowner which took just one day to install by Nanotec.

The solar panels have helped her reduce energy bills and use green electricity for day-to-day activities without the worry of costs.

Not only will Stephanie save money on her bills, but she will also be paid for exporting renewable energy she doesn’t use.

She also praised the support and communication received from Warmworks in the lead up to and after works were completed.
