The Great Park
Situated at the heart of Beaulieu, the Great Park once formed part of the hunting grounds of the Tudor royal palace. Today, it is a cherished open space where residents can enjoy peaceful walks amongst grassland and wildflowers.
Wildlife of the Great Park
The Great Park supports an important grassland ecosystem, home to a rich variety of species, including:
- Great crested newts
- Skylarks
- Muntjac deer
- Birds of prey such as kestrels and sparrowhawks
- Tawny and barn owls
- Bats including natterer’s, long-eared, common pipistrelle and soprano pipistrelle
Careful grassland management and native hedgerows help provide essential foraging areas and natural shelter. Purpose-built ponds and drainage systems offer habitat not only for great crested newts but also smooth and palmate newts, frogs and common toads.
Together, these features form a mosaic of wildlife corridors, routes that allow animals to move, feed, breed and thrive across Beaulieu and beyond.
