Coronation Park is a popular park found close to the city centre which specialises in providing quality sports facilities. It regularly wins awards for its top-quality rugby and cricket pitches. The park is home to Chelmsford Rugby Club, Springfield Cricket Club and Springfield Striders Running Club.
Along with the wide range of available sporting opportunities, younger park visitors can enjoy the new play area, suitable for children up to 12.

Springfield Cricket Club was founded in 1960 and since 1961 we have called Coronation Park home, building our own clubhouse with bar facilities. We have two squares maintained by the Council during the season. We also use Admirals Park for our 5XI as we continue to grow.
Seen as a social hub by many in the Chelmsford & Springfield area, the club has grown massively and now has 7 senior weekend teams as well as age groups ranging from Under 9 to Under 16 and a development team.
The club has a great community spirit, regularly raising money for local charities. We are also proud to share our facilities with the local running club ‘Springfield Striders’, The Spring Chicks Ladies Rounders Team as well as our inhouse Darts and Crib teams.

Coronation Park has officially been home to Chelmsford Rugby Football Club (CRFC) since 1961, although it is possible that some games may have been played here at an earlier date.
Known as the Blue Boys, the 1stXV were promoted last season to London North East 2 (Level 6) which is very fitting as this year we are celebrating our Centenary, 1920-2020.
The newest Clubhouse stands on the east side of Coronation Park having moved from the west side and was opened in 2006 by the then International Rugby Football Union President, Dr Sidney Miller.
We currently have in excess of fifty senior men registered with the Club and put out three sides a week, 1stXV, 2ndXV & VetsXV.
CRFC also have a thriving Ladies section. The BlueBirds currently play in National Challenge League 2 have approximately thirty squad members and for the first time ever are looking at putting out a 2nd XV.
There is also a Youth Section which covers the U13’s to U18’s with in excess of one hundred boys, the Girls Section, U12’s to U18’s, with over twenty girls and the Minis Section, U6’s to U12’s, over three hundred and fifty boys and girls.
