From sports to strolls: a park for everyone

This October, we are shining a spotlight on  Admirals Park Local Nature Reserve and Tower Gardens. Within walking distance of the city centre, these green spaces are a haven for residents and visitors alike.

Tower Gardens can be recognised by its bright, blooming flower beds, tall, majestic trees, and of course the Grade II listed Conduit. The Conduit is a dome of stone upon six circular, tapered columns which make it a centrepiece of the gardens. Alongside these key features of the garden, which make it such a popular site, are the sports facilities which offer a range of opportunities.

Tennis courts and the new cycling skills facility within the gardens are perfect for those looking to practise their racket and bike skills. Welcoming people of all ages and abilities is what makes these areas a must-visit. Getting active outside surrounded by lovely flora is sure to make you feel happy and healthy. Of course, we can’t forget that Tower Gardens is the home of the Chelmsford Bowls Club which has approximately 125 members!

Heading over to Admirals Park Local Nature Reserve, there is more waiting to be discovered.

Woodland and riverside walks await, which are perfect for dog walkers, people looking for a tranquil lunch break away from the city centre and anyone craving some fresh air. These pathways also make great cycling routes, with access to the city centre, it could be a new way for you to commute to the office or train station, using sustainable travel instead of a car.

Free outdoor gym and play areas can also be found in Admirals Park, alongside informal football pitches and a Cricket pitch where the Old Chelmsfordians play. Adding to the versatility of these green spaces, the opportunity for recreation alongside the parkland ensures everyone can come and enjoy these green spaces.
