Buzz in the City has seen 30 bee sculptures make Chelmsford their home this summer. Launching on July 5, the bees have been making a buzz for a few weeks now and have been enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
Farleigh Hospice worked with Making Trails and Chelmsford For You, supported by Chelmsford City Council, to create this unique art trail. All you need to do is download the Buzz in the City app (https://www.buzzinthecity.co.uk/art-trail/app/ ) or pop down to the Farleigh Hospice pop-up shop in Chelmsford High Street to buy a paper map. Then you’re all set to start collecting the bees on your app as you go!

As well as raising awareness and funds for local hospice charity, Farleigh Hospice, the trail is highlighting all the great places we have in Chelmsford to visit. Bees have been installed in our city parks and green spaces, reminding those on the trail that in pockets of the city there’s greenery, nature and peace and quiet to visit.
Central Park, Chelmer Valley Local Nature Reserve and Oaklands Park each have sculptures to discover. Every sculpture is unique and some are even educational! Situated next to Central Park Café in the gorgeous garden area, is ‘Bee Inside’ designed by Tamara Eden.

Tamara is a Chelmsford-based artist and has designed her sculpture based on her zookeeper experience and love for all creatures. Her design gives a detailed view of the anatomy of a bee, which is a great educational opportunity for both adults and children who find this bee on their trail route.
The Love Your Chelmsford team are passionate when it comes to teaching people about the importance of bees (one of our key pollinators) for our local ecosystem, so we hope these sculptures will pique interest for important this winged creature.
On September 9, the trail will come to a close but there’s still plenty of time to explore Chelmsford by foot and find each fantastic bee scattered across our city.
When you reach the bees in our parks and green spaces, why not take a photo and send it over to our social accounts we would love to see you enjoying this art trail!
