The Love Your Chelmsford programme operate a scheme whereby volunteers can loan litter picking equipment.
The offering includes a picker (of course), a safety jacket and gloves, plus green volunteer bags for the collection of litter. Volunteers have expressed that litter picking and cleaning their local environment gives them a reason to go for a walk, take in fresh air, clear their minds and complete an activity that benefits wildlife and improves the street scene.
We have analysed the data of litter picking equipment and litter collection bags requests, and updated our map to show where volunteers have concentrated their efforts between April 2023 and December 2024. We know that the data recorded is just the tip of the ice berg for environmental volunteer efforts in the Chelmsford district. We have a caring and considerate community to combat the negative behaviours of a few, and long may this continue.
The City Council’s Street Care Teams do a fantastic job keeping Chelmsford clean and safe, but they can’t be everywhere all of the time. The contribution of volunteers to enhance the environmental quality of the Chelmsford district must not be understated and we thank you.
