Melbourne Park

Melbourne Park has some 21.18 Hectares of available space to enjoy. It has a variety of formal grass sports pitches and a selection of outdoor hard surface court areas, for those interested in tennis, netball and basketball. There is also a baseball diamond, a 3G floodlit artificial grass pitch and athletics throwing area.

For the younger visitor, there are two well-equipped children’s play areas and a wood to play in.

College Wood is a remnant of ancient woodland (4.5 Hectares). A little-known but interesting fact is that at one time, the wood was used by Henry VIII and stocked with game for him to hunt. The wood is now listed as designated ancient woodland.

Melbourne Park also plays host to Chelmsford Sport and Athletics Centre, Chelmsford Athletics Club and Chelmsford City Football Club, so there are top facilities here to use.

Essex Redbacks Baseball Club

As soon as ‘baseball’ is mentioned, everyone usually thinks USA. Yes, it’s their national pastime, but Chelmsford also has its own team that has been playing since 2009. The Essex Redbacks Baseball Club is based at Chelmsford City Council’s Melbourne Park.

This exciting sport is open to all ages and gender. Adult teams have players from 16 up to 60 years old.

The Redbacks are keen to keep expanding, with new adult and youth players and more recently female players getting involved.

Redbacks have experienced coaching for all skill levels, club mark accreditation, and youth DBS approved coaches.

Chelmsford City Ladies & Girls Football Club

The Club have been training on the 3G at Melbourne Park since it opened and enjoy the well maintained facilities. Our club offers football for all ages from 8 years up to senior players.

Training on Wednesday evenings between 6.00pm-9.00pm the club is currently running two senior teams and three junior teams at ages U11, U13 and U15’s playing the Essex County Women’s League and Essex County Girls Leagues respectively. All matches are played on Sundays.

We are a Charter Standard club and all coaches are DBS checked and hold relevant coaching qualifications. We are proud to offer football in a fun and safe environment.
