Oaklands Park Gardener

Hello, from Oaklands Park! It’s been a while since we gave an update on what’s been happening.

Over the last 6 months we have been working hard to improve many of the garden areas of the park, including the walled garden which has been refurbished and planted up with new herbaceous plants – look out for a sway of colour in the summer!

We have also been clearing out and tidying the shrub bed and replanting young and interesting varieties. These will give great displays for the long-term and will flower at all times of the year, from Viburnums to Syringas to Philadelphus. Many of the old shrubbery beds have had a good weed through and we have undertaken our winter pruning.

As the park is coming back to life, our Ceanothus (California lilac) is in full bloom and looking amazing. The garden volunteers also started back in April and have been busy on the Rose Terrace, tying the roses in on the swags and hoeing beds. It won’t be long before the terrace is in full bloom.
