Hylands Head Gardener

As you can imagine with the rain we have had over the past few months, the ground conditions at Hylands Estate are very waterlogged. Our new Winter Walk is starting to establish itself with the mahonias and hellebores in flower and the colourful cornus (dogwood) stems are looking good!

In The One World Garden the Sarcococca confusa (sweet box) shrubs are currently in full flower and the wonderful powerful scent fills the air in the garden.  In the same garden there is a great selection of cornus with a variety of different coloured stems, which brighten up a dull winter’s day.  There are also signs of spring in the air as the foliage and flower buds of spring bulbs, which include daffodils, are emerging from the ground.

We are currently renovating the pathways to improve the look of the Pleasure Gardens. Our next jobs in the gardens include pruning the wisterias on the pergolas, roses and the cherry laurel hedges that line the paths.
