Freegle is a free online community that helps local people give away unwanted items and find things they need. The Chelmsford Freegle group already has almost 14,000 members, all helping to keep useful items in circulation rather than throwing them away.
Whether it’s furniture, toys, books, electricals, gardening equipment or household items, chances are someone nearby could put it to good use. Likewise, if you’re looking for something, you may be able to find it on Freegle for free.
Why is Freegle important?
In a world where so many new products are made every day, giving pre-loved items a second life is one of the simplest ways to reduce waste and make better use of the resources we already have. Reusing items helps reduce demand for new products, saves valuable materials and energy, and supports a more circular economy.
Across Essex, Freegle users saved 360 tonnes of items from disposal in 2023, helping to keep usable goods out of the waste stream and in the hands of people who need them.
Getting started is easy. Simply sign up, post an item you’d like to give away, browse items available locally, or request something you’re looking for. It’s completely free, and items are exchanged directly between local people.
